Castles of Central Italy
Included in this section are a few of the castles in the regions of Tuscany, Umbria, Le Marche, and Lazio.
I will add more images of these castles as they become available.
Castles of Poppi and Val d'orcia
Tuscany: Spedaletto.
We discovered Spedaletto many years ago, when it was an unoccupied, derelict old castle in the countryside of Tuscany. Long before we thought it was even possible to own property in Italy, we dreamed of purchasing the old castle and restoring it to what it should be.
That didn't happen, but someone else bought it and restored it. We were able to return and spend a night there. It was wonderful!

Umbria: Rocca del Leone, Castiglione del Lago
umbria: Castello di Sismano
This is a wonderful castle on Lago Trasimeno. The town is also charming. We have enjoyed visiting and exploring both the castle and the town. Unfortunately, our photos were lost, so we will visit the place again soon, and post photos here soon.
Umbria: Rocca Maggiore, Assisi

Lazio: Castello Orsini di Bracciano
Castello Orsini, in the town and on the lake of Bracciano, is one that would most likely be included in our list of top ten Italian castles, if we had one. It includes extensive rooms, ramparts, and is very complete in both its restoration and decor.
Located less than 45 minutes northwest of Rome, it is easily reachable by car from a number of locations. Our tower in Umbria is less than two hours away.
