Eating in Italy/Central: Lazio

Rome boasts hundreds, if not thousands of eateries.  Our purpose here is to share places we have enjoyed, not necessarily the most popular or famous.  There are many food reviewers you can read and make your own decisions.  We  have enjoyed the Rome restaurant review of Female Foodie and have tried some of the restaurants she recommends for Rome.  We also know people in Rome who can recommend dining options, and are happy to reach out to them for their suggestions for you.

Rome/Trevi Fountain: L'Antico Forno,

We found this bakery/salumeria on a beautiful day in January 2020 when we were out exploring Rome, looking for specialty shops, and trying really hard to avoid any tourist sites.  We had the address of the bakery, and as we were getting closer to it, saw crowds of people gathered around some point of interest.  We spotted the bakery first, then turned to see what the attraction was.  That's when we realized the bakery shared the piazza with the Trevi Fountain!  This made us laugh, and enjoy the piazza much more than we would have, if we had intentionally been seeking the famous fountain.

The bakery is great for baked goods, sandwiches, salami, etc.  And, obviously very convenient to the Trevi Fountain!

Gelateria Del Teatro

A wonderful gelateria with an wide range of unusual flavors.  When we were there they had rose petal, and a number of others we haven't seen in other places.  They did not allow any tasting, which is unusual in a gelateria (at least outside of tourist areas).

Forno, campo De' Fiori

Campo dei Fiori is home to a very famous daily market in Rome.  This sweet and savory bakeshop is just about as well known as the market.  They sell excellent  baked goods, sandwiches (panini) and sliced pizza.  A great place to stop to grab a portable breakfast or lunch.

Open Monday  - Saturday, 8 am - 2:30 and 4:30 pm to 7:30pm.

The Gelatist Yogurteria

This gelateria is a bit out of the way for tourists in the historic center of Rome. However, it is only a few minutes' walk from the Termini train station.

My favorite flavor is yogurt, honey, walnuts and sesame.  I would walk a long ways to eat this frozen yogurt again!

Via Nazionale 19 a

There are other locations of the Gelatist in Rome.  You can Google those.
