Eating in Italy/North: Veneto

Verona, Piazza Isolo:
Pancaffe'

This is our favorite place to eat breakfast in Verona.  We generally order hot chocolate (cioccolata calda con panna), along with a pastry or focaccia.  We also purchase bread here, and sometimes something that we will heat up later for lunch.  They have very good lasagne, and other dishes.  Our apartment is just a five-minutes' walk from here, so it is very convenient.

They also sell a few refrigerated foods, such as milk, etc, that we sometimes pick up, as well.

Verona/Piazza Isolo: Ristorante Du Schei

This is another one of our favorite places to eat in Verona.  We have loved their stuffed squash blossoms and Cacio e Pepe Pasta.  The menu varies by season, so you will not always find the same dishes offered.  The restaurant offers local and more general Italian dishes.  Also some English dishes.

Cacio e Pepe

Verona/Piazza Isolo:
Trattoria all'Isolo

We were referred to this place by our plumber!  That means it's the most authentic local food you will find, and it truly is very good!  Dishes can be seasonal, such as gnocchi which are traditionally eaten in Verona on the Friday before Fat Tuesday of Carnevale.  There are also some, such as equine (horse) that you won't find everywhere.

The Trattoria all'Isolo is one that we highly recommend to everyone staying at our apartment in Verona.  Delicious food with a truly local flavor.

Gelateria Ballini, Verona

This gelateria is as local as we can get in Verona, as it's on our own street!   It's so fun to stroll down the street of our lovely neighborhood and stop for a gelato here.  They servce artisan gelato, made on site, in a number of flavors, depending on the season.

They are generally open daily from noon until 10:30 pm, though they do take some time off in November.

Enjoying a gelato on the "street where we live!"

Verona/Near Ponte Pietra:
Latteria Verona Ristorante

"A taste of Puglia in the heart of Verona"

This restaurant, just on the other side of the River Adige, across the old bridge, Ponte Pietra, from our apartment, offers some amazing food.  The gnocchi were so light and delicious that we ordered seconds!  This is also the first place we tasted burrata, served as an appetizer, layered between fragile pastry along with prosciutto crudo.  So many delicious things!

This restaurant is slightly more pricey than the trattoria in Piazza Isolo, but so so good!

Paccheri

Marostica: Caffe' Dante

Marostica is a charming castle town in the hills between Verona and Venice.  A large chess board occupies the main piazza, where a chess festival is held the 2nd Saturday of years ending in even numbers.  This is a lovely town, well worth the slight detour.

After exploring the castle, we were delighted to discover this bar/trattoria in the main piazza.  We enjoyed delicious salads, lasagne, and dessert here.

Auronzo di Cadore, Belluno:
Pizzeria del Rio

As we were driving through northeastern Italy, we were fortunate to happen across this restaurant near the shore of Lago di Santa Caterina in the stunning Dolomite mountains just at lunchtime.  We enjoyed wonderful pizza and salads, leaving very satisfied.

Open Tuesday - Sunday 10:30 - 2:30 & 5:30 - 10:30.  Closed Monday.
