Our Favorite Hilltowns

PXL_20240515_111753343_edited.jpg

If you've ever visited or studied Italy, you will know that most of the country is not flat.  Furthermore, ancient peoples tended to build their villages and cities on top of hills as a means to protect themselves and to be able to keep a watch out for intruders.  These ancient means of survival have translated into a landscape of rolling greenery with villages and castles crowning hills in every direction.

So, it should be no surprise that one of our favorite activities when in Italy is exploring hill towns.  It is such a delight to discover a new village crowning a hill.  Or, returning to a hilltop town that has become and old friend, and renewing the acquaintance is delightful, as well!

Todi, just down the mountain from our tower in Umbria, is one of our favorite hilltowns.
